Do you know the Overbust Corset ‘Golden Sizing Rule’?
Overbust Corsets are very different from other forms of lingerie. For example, Babydolls and chemises can simply be sized via a dress size, but for corsets however, it’s very different. Not only will the sizing be displayed differently, but there is a golden rule to remember, when choosing your overbust corset.
The next time you visit a lingerie website, look up the sizing. You should see sizing like 32, 34, 36, 38 etc. These are the bust sizes. They are there instead of dress sizing, because corsets are designed to cover the body in a different manner to other lingerie items. Most lingerie will be designed to fit loosely over the figure (such as a babydoll), but corsets are designed to hug the figure, creating a much slender look. It’s because of this, the 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42 and 44 numerical sizing (also known as Bust or Band sizes) is in place, it’s to allow the customer to make room for their bust size, as if the corset hugs a figure, you need to allocate space for the bust.
BUT…there is a flaw in such sizing. Many women have returned corsets, thinking that they’ve chosen the right size, then to realise the bust is simply far too tight. What you need here, is a simple golden rule that relates to your bra cup size:
The Overbust Corset Golden Rule
If you are a D cup or below, then choose whatever bust size you measure to (more on how to measure your bust/band size below). However, if you’re a DD cup or above, you’ll need to choose your corset an extra size up from what you actually are, giving you that extra, essential space for your bust.
If you are unsure of your bust/band size, then please visit our detailed corset sizing page. This will allow you to measure yourself, enabling you to determine your correct bust/band size. Once you have it, you then simply add the ‘Overbust Corset Golden Rule’ and you’ll enjoy corset shopping much, much more.
